Program Info

The Karen Shepherd Fund provides stipends to interns for Democratic candidates running in local, state and federal campaigns in Utah. The goal of the Fund is to build expertise and leadership skills within Utah's Democratic Party and to help the best Democratic candidates win their elections.

Karen Shepherd is a former member of the Utah Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. The Karen Shepherd Fund was established from funds remaining from her final campaign in 1994 and has, since that time, provided stipends for over 150 interns working in the campaigns of Utah Democrats. The Fund was established to keep faith with her contributors and to further causes for which she was an advocate, especially ethics and integrity in government. Each candidate who hosts a KSF intern must sign a pledge to support laws regulating campaign finance reform, lobbyist disclosure, and gift ban legislation. It is guided by a board of directors that includes the chair of the Democratic Party and many others who have many years of political experience.
